ArchiCAD Behind Best Pavilion Designs at Shanghai World Expo

BUDAPEST, May 4, 2010 – With more than 190 countries and over 50 international organizations represented, World Expo 2010 Shanghai is the largest ever. A major focus of international expositions is always the groundbreaking pavilion designs, and the Shanghai World Expo boasts several that were designed using GRAPHISOFT ArchiCAD.

The pavilions of Norway, Hungary, Finland, Iceland and Russia are just a few that were designed using ArchiCAD.

Designed by Helen & Hard, the main theme of Norway’s pavilion is sustainable societal development. The structure consists of 15 bamboo or wooden elements of various dimensions, reminding the visitor of trees. Thus, a walk through the pavilion is much like a walk in a Norwegian forest. At the same time, each tree functions as part of the construction, the infrastructure, furniture, the playground, the exhibition, and the display of information. Following the expo, the 15 ‘trees’ will be donated to 15 Chinese cities as a symbol of friendship. A combination of visual, tactile, audio, and physical stimuli will create a powerful sensory experience for the visitors.

Please refer to our previous article for more details about the Hungarian pavilion, which features a unique invention called the Gömböc.
