CALL FOR ABSTRACTS / PAPERS – eCAADe 08 – abstracts due Feb 01, 2008
==========================================
eCAADe 2008: The 26th Annual Conference of Education and Research in Computer Aided Architectural Design in Europe
Theme: Architecture ‘in computero’: practice, methods and techniques
Dates: September 17-20, 2008
Hosts: The University College of Antwerpen, College of Design Sciences,
The Higher Institute of Architectural Sciences, Henry van de Velde
Website:http://www.ecaade08.be/
For more than 25 years CAAD has been available and more and more successfully used in research and commercial Architectural practice.
In education, which by definition should prepare students for the future, the constantly evolving CAAD metaphor is provoking a challenge to cope with the ever expanding scope of related topics. It is not surprising that this has lead to differing opinions as to how CAAD should be taught. Questions such as how advanced research results can be incorporated in teaching, or if the Internet is provoking self-education by students, are in striking contrast with the more fundamental issues such as the discussion on analogue versus digital design methods. Is CAAD a part of design teaching or is it its logical
successor in a global E-topia? The integration of CAAD education in the wider field of research and design topics will make it at least greater than the sum of its parts and could be the key to boosting CAAD for the future.

Although the E of education is a prominent factor in the raison d’être of the organisation, the eCAADe is open to all other relevant contributions in the area of computer aided architectural design such as:
CAAD Curriculum
City Modelling
Collaborative Design
Digital Aids to Design Creativity
Digital Applications in Construction

Antwerp (Belgium)
The Higher Institute of Architectural Sciences, Henry van de Velde is located in the historical buildings of the Royal Academy of Fine Art. The bond with fine arts, established since the founding of the Academy in 1662, is still in place.
Located in the historical centre of Antwerp, the venue is within walking distance (10 to 15 min.) from a variety of hotels, restaurants, cultural and modern buildings of historical and architectural interest. In the south of the city a thriving day and nightlife has emerged around the now filled southern docks. Of special interest are the warehouses (shops, art, bars and good food) and award winning buildings. The recently finished “Court of Justice” (Richard Rogers Partnership / VKStudio / Ove Arup & Partners) is already considered as an icon of the city. To the north we are eagerly awaiting the completion of the MAS, Museum at the River Scheld (Neutelings Riedijk Architecten) and the “Lange Wapper” bridge spanning a large part of the northern dockyards. Antwerp is also known for its complete intact “art deco” district “Zurenborg” and some marvels of modernistic buildings.
Antwerp is directly connected by fast trains, flights and highways to all European capitals. (see further information about travel – details at our website)
