No se puede hablar del día sin mentar la noche. No se puede hablar de Glasgow sin mencionar a Edimburgo, su eterna rival. Esta última es la capital de Escocia, pero Glasgow es su motor económico y creativo. Edimburgo tiene medio millón de vecinos, pero Glasgow triplica esa cifra. Edimburgo ha sido declarada por la Unesco Ciudad Literaria, pero a Glasgow le han otorgado el título de Ciudad de la Arquitectura. En Edimburgo están los palacios de la Reina, el Parlamento y mucho turismo al uso; en Glasgow pujan la vanguardia, las tiendas de diseño, los edificios del gaudí local, C. R. Mackintosh, los cuales representan la versión nacional del modernismo. La gente de Glasgow no es estirada, tiene humor, es abierta. Para resumir: los de Glasgow afirman que lo mejor de Edimburgo es el tren que sale para Glasgow (claro, que en la otra ciudad dicen lo mismo, pero al revés). Hay, en cualquier caso, una manera infalible de saber si un ciudadano es de Glasgow o de Edimburgo: si pide fish & chips con sal y salsa, es de Edimburgo; si lo pide con sal y vinagre, es de Glasgow.
