Yesterday the Qatar Museum Authority and Jean Nouvel (Pritzker Prize-winning architect) unveiled plans for the new National Museum of Qatar. The cultural center is inspired by the desert architecture and lives of the Bedouin culture as well as a deep-seated respect for the hot desert climate.
The new museum will be the first monument travelers see from the airport and the sustainable design of the complex and surrounding landscapes will help prove Qatar to be a forward-looking country.

Jean Nouvel new National Museum Qatar – designboom
French architect Jean Nouvel is responsible for the design of the new National Museum of Qatar.
His concept reflects the vanishing bedouin cultures of Qatar, in an effort to embrace the realities of a rapidly urbanization society, and maintain a connection to this fading world in which the country sprang.
The National Museum of Qatar is a Tasty New Take on Culture
I think cities all around the world should take note of the National Museum of Qatar’s design. If more cultural centers resembled this look, I guarantee there would be a huge increase in the volume of visitors. Though some people would never dream of stepping foot inside a museum, you put a sweet package over it like this and you’ll bring them in droves.
Designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, the National Museum of Qatar is one of many cultural buildings being built in the Emirates in the hopes of turning the region into a tourist destination. If more buildings like this go up in Qatar, I’m sure they won’t have any trouble bringing people in.
